CROSBY-In mid-June the best high school seniors football players in Texas and Louisiana will throw down in Baytown at the Bayou Bowl All Star game.
Among those 50 players making the roster from Southeast Texas, who have been recognized as the best of the best, will be Crosbys Phillip Beck.
Beck, who was named First Team All State for 2003, broke a state record for most receptions in a single season last year with 214.
The Bayou Bowl pits the best graduating seniors from Southeast Texas against the best from Louisiana. The game is played in an alternating series with two years in Texas, then two years in Baton Rouge, La. As the largest stadium in the Greater Houston Area, Baytowns Stallworth Stadium has been selected as the Texas site.
This years game will be held June 19 at 8 p.m.
Beck is one of seven wide receivers to make this years squad. Other local players to make the team are Jake Sutton, an offensive lineman from Sterling and Charles Godfrey, a defensive back from Lee. Coaching this years squad from Texas will be Dick Olin, head coach of the Lee Ganders.
The Bayou Bowl will have a Super Bowl-like atmosphere with a week of activities for players including a chance to practice at Reliant Stadium and the University of Houston, a baseball game at Minute Maid Park and dinners hosted by volunteers from Louisiana and Texas.
