New roadways in design for Crosby

South Diamondhead in Newport may begin bidding by December

CROSBY – The Newport Subdivision’s South Diamondhead Boulevard, FM 2100 at the railroad tracks in Olde Town Crosby, FM 2100 from Hare Road to FM 1960 and US 90 to I-H 610 are all under design for construction to begin in 2006.

According to Precinct 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole, “There are two projects planned for South Diamondhead in Newport. Reconstruction of the existing asphalt section of South Diamondhead is currently beginning evaluated and the project should be bid by the fourth quarter of 2004; the actual bid date is contingent on design completion. Future capital improvements include completing the boulevard section on South Diamondhead between Golf Club Drive and FM 2100 including bridge installation over Gum Gully. It is Precinct Four’s goal to initiate the engineering efforts in 2006.”

The bridge Commissioner Eversole is referring to has been in existence since Newport Subdivision began to run toward Lake Houston in the early 1980’s. According to engineers, the replacement will be completed before condemnation by state regulatory agencies.

The Crosby/Huffman Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee meets Monday, April 26, at 9:00 a.m. at the Crosby ISD Administration Building with Texas Dept. of Transportation’s (TXDoT) Bridge and Road Design Team. Discussion of specifications to make the bridge overpass reflect the Crosby community’s individuality is expected at the meeting.

At a Crosby/Huffman Chamber of Commerce Luncheon on March 27, TXDoT Engineer Stephen Wainaina and Public Information Officer Jeanelle Gbur described the processes necessary to begin construction.
