Miss Highlands Pageants set for Sat. Oct. 1

SEEKING THE MISS HIGHLANDS CROWN Miss Highlands 2004

HIGHLANDS— The 48th Annual Miss Highlands Pageant and the 13th Annual Junior Miss Highlands Pageant will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Highlands Junior School Auditorium. The Junior Miss Highlands Pageant will begin at 2 p.m. and the Miss Highlands Pageant will follow that evening at 7 p.m.

The annual pageants are sponsored by the Highlands Horizons, a service organization in the Highlands community. Proceeds from the pageants are returned to the community in the form of scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Last year’s scholarship recipients were Lauren Dew (2004 Miss Highlands), Jessica Clanton. Jessica Cowley, Amy Dempsey, Chance Lafour, Travis Niebert, Sofia Ocequeda, Mallory White and Laci Alsbrook (winner of the Jennie Robbins Memorial Scholarship).
The Miss Highlands Pageant directors are Jamie Gonzales, Prissy Huntley. Kay Lafour and Cindy Lamb, and the choreographer is Lauren Timmons. The Junior Miss Highlands Pageant directors are Delene Cotten, Norma Cotten, Kathryn Dunlop and Carol Forrest, and the choreographer is Mandy Twiggs. This year the pageants will have a country and western theme and will be emceed by Mr. Rob Shalvey and 2004 Miss Highlands Lauren Dew.
All tickets for the events are $5 and children 3 and under are admitted free. Programs will be sold for $1.00. Pageant contestants will be selling tickets prior to the pageant and they may also be purchased at the door. Highlands Horizons wishes to thank all the local businesses that have contributed to the success of both pageants.
