JOHN CARROLL WORTHEN, 61, CROSBY
John Carroll Worthen, 61, departed this life Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at his home in Crosby. Born on July 12, 1945, in Pasadena, Texas, John was the son of J.B. and Mildred
(Winchester) Worthen. After graduating from Pasadenas South Houston High School, he attended San Jacinto College and Stephen F. Austin University. After being drafted into the US Army, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Ann (Lisa) Eliason on August 21, 1967. Two weeks later he shipped out & served as a medic in the Vietnam War. He was an active member
of First Baptist Church in Crosby, where he and his family were involved in the music ministry, and were instrumental in the formation of the churchs single ministries. Additionally, he and, his son, J.J., along with Dick Swenson and Gene Talbot formed a mens quartet, and sang at many church and community events.
Following more than 20 years of service, he retired from ExxonMobil as a process technician. When he wasnt singing, John enjoyed fishing, snow-skiing, riding his Gold Wing, fixing things around the house and playing golf. A devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather, Johns true passion was spending time, traveling and playing practical jokes on and with his children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his mother; his family members include his wife of 39 years, Lisa Worthen of Crosby; daughter and son-in-law, Christina and Brandon Maxwell of Baytown; son, John J. J.J. Worthen of Houston; two grandchildren, Talon and Grayson Maxwell; father, J.B. Worthen of Pasadena; and sister, Susan Warren of LaPorte.
Celebration of Johns life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2006 at First Baptist Church, 615 Runneburg, in Crosby, Robin Butler and Gene Talbot will officiate. Committal service will be private at Evergreen Cemetery in Crosby. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Swenson, C.H. Cain, Gene Talbot, Larry Baisdon, Randy Marek, B.J. Hatfield, Dale Akers, Alan Beck, Dale Akers and Ronnie Davenport.
