CROSBY – A Sunday outing turned tragic when a blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle tried to enter US 90 from the southbound feeder at the 2400 block.

Witnesses say some riders on bikes had been racing along on their way to an event closer to Houston at about 6:05 p.m. on July 22. Apparently, the motorcycle hit the guardrail marking the entrance to the highway.

The motorcycle was being driven by Martin Stephen McKinley and his sister-in-law, Aliecia Wright Pruitt, was riding behind him.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office report says, “Witnesses advised McKinley was traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the crash, and that he had been drinking alcoholic beverages.”

Investigators determined McKinley failed to drive in a single lane while attempting to enter US 90 from the entrance lane. McKinley struck the guardrail with his motorcycle where both he and Pruitt fell from the motorcycle. During the crash Pruitt sustained life threatening injuries, which ultimately caused her death. ” She was pronounced at the scene.

McKinley also sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by Life Flight. At the hospital it was discovered that McKinley was allegedly intoxicated. McKinley was arrested at the hospital and charged with Intoxication Manslaughter. This case remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
