Car collision on US90 kills horse and rider

CROSBY – A rider on a horse was killed on Sunday at about 8:00 p.m. on US 90 at Lord Road. The rider was identified as Richard Wright.

According to HCSO Traffic Investigators, it appears that the rider was trying to cross the 7500 block of US 90 on the north side when he and the horse were struck by a 2016 Dodge Journey sedan also traveling eastbound. Investigators indicated that the horse rider had failed to yield right of way to oncoming traffic.

A two year old was with its mother in the car and was injured by flying glass. The driver of the car cooperated with authorities at the scene. No charges were filed against the car’s driver.

No sign of life was found on Richard Wright when law enforcement and EMS arrived, according to authorities. They said that the horse also died in the collision.
