HIGHLANDS: Car runs stop sign, hits boy on ATV

A 10-yr-old boy riding the ATV seen above left, was struck by the Honda at the right on Sunday afternoon, about 2:30 pm. The boy was LifeFlighted to the hospital. He flew through the air about 100 feet, according to witnesses, and was at first unconscious, but was awake and in critical condition when transported.

Witnesses said that two cars were speeding southbound on Begonia Street, and allegedly ran the stop sign. The boy was riding his ATV on Thorn Street, headed west. Deputies said that the Honda seemed to be chasing another car, and they are searching for that driver. The driver of the Honda initially left the scene, but returned and was being questioned.
