DEER PARK, TX – U.S. Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) released the following statement after visiting Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard E. Whitten and his wife, Kami, at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Houston Medical Center on Monday. Deputy Whitten has been in recovery since he was critically injured after being shot in the line of duty on May 29, 2019.

Deputy and Mrs. Whitten spoke at length with Congressman Babin about Richard’s passion for law enforcement as well as his recovery process. Following their conversation, Deputy Whitten received an American flag that Congressman Babin had flown over the United States Capitol in recognition of his bravery and selfless service to the people of Liberty County.

“The highlight of our visit was the firm handshake Richard offered when we first met,” said Babin. “This is evidence that he is making great strides in rehab! Deputy Whitten and his family remain in my prayers as he continues down the road to recovery.”
