County starts affordable housing in Newport

CROSBY – A new project in Newport aims to lead the charge in innovative attainable housing programs. Harris County Single-Family New Construction and Harris County Community Land Trust have initiated construction of two affordable houses in the Newport neighborhood.

On Thursday, October 14th Pct. 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, and Dr. Adrienne Holloway, Executive Director of Harris County Community Services Department participated in a ribbon-cutting for the new homes.

The Harris County Community Service Department Single-Family New-Construction Program broke ground on the first of two SFNCP-constructed homes of its new Newport Project, a $466,612 attainable housing initiative in Precinct 2.

Project construction is funded by CSD’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program. Both homes will be conveyed into Harris County’s Community Land Trust and sold to program-qualified families at 80% of the area median income or below.

The homes are being constructed in Newport at 16839 Marlin Spike Way.
