Highlands Fire Department, with the help of Crosby, Channelview, and Sheldon VFD, battled a fire in an abandoned building on Main Street last Thursday evening. The fire consumed trash and the building. Flames and heavy smoke and a small explosion filled the air and attracted many onlookers.
A report from the Harris County Fire Marshal indicated the fire was probably set by vagrants living in the building, perhaps on purpose because they had been forced to leave by the owner.
