Date set for Chambers County Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Chambers County will be held on June 1&2, 2007 at White’s Park in Hankamer.
Relay for Life is a TEAM event in which walkers or runners compete in friendly competition to win individual and team awards. One member is on the track at all times. Teams consist of 8 to 15 people representing various businesses, civic groups, social organizations, church groups, friends and/or families. While the Relay For Life is in progress, a community party atmosphere is created in tent city with entertainment, food, games and camaraderie. For more information about forming or sponsoring a team please contact Connie Lee at 409-296-9268, Jean A. Forrest at 409- 252-4588, or Danita Blasdel at 409-267-5337. Any of these ladies will be happy to help you.

If you know anyone who is a cancer survivor and would like to take part in the Relay For Life, please have them contact Linda Spurlock at 409-267-7880, or Jean Forrest at 409-252-4588. These ladies will be happy to assist you. Cancer survivors will take the first lap, to kick off the relay. There will be a special t-shirt, and a goodie bag for them, but they must be registered.
Luminaries will be sold for a minimum $5 donation. The luminaria are “IN HONOR OF” or “IN MEMORY OF” a loved one. At 9:00p.m., Friday, June 1, the luminaria bags will be placed around the track and will be lit by a votive candle. If interested, please contact Maddie Peddycoat at 409-243-2592, Mary Tate at 409-296-2054, or any team member. Please keep an eye open for luminaria forms at local churches, businesses, and through teams.
Many teams are holding bake and craft sales at local businesses. The crafts are adorable and the goodies are oh, so sweet! Chambers County Relay shirts with a very special design featuring this year’s theme “Surfin’ for a Cure” are available to order from a participating team member for a cost of $15.00. You don’t want to pass this up, they are beautiful. Please give these guys and gals a hand and support your county relay. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society in their fight against cancer. Please come out and support the cause.
