Crosby soccer star named collegiate player of the week

CROSBY – Mackenzie Fowler, a 2008 graduate of Crosby High, earned her first award of the 2008 season being named the NCCAA (National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association) women’s soccer “Player of the Week.”

She is the goalkeeper for the Judson University Eagles in Elgin, Ill.

Fowler earns the award for a 2-1 record and two shut outs.

She shut out both Calumet College (5-0) and NCAA Division I Houston Baptist (1-0) and then fell to Illinois Tech, 1-0. With both shut outs, she earned her fourth and fifth shut outs of the season.

It was also the fourth time this year she has recorded 10 or more saves in a match. Against Houston Baptist, she stopped seven of 11 shots in the second half with three saves coming in the first four minutes of the second half. She also had a save in each overtime period. She faced only one shot against Calumet College.

Before the lone goal that went by her against Illinois Tech, she had record 358 minutes of shut out soccer. The last goal she had let past her came in the first half on Oct. 11 vs. McKendree. Illinois Tech did not score until the 91st minute against Judson.
