Jamboree sees “Happy Days”

Goose Creek Memorial High School Band was judged Best School Spirit in the Jamboree Parade.

HIGHLANDS – Unlike last year, when Hurricane Harvey put a stop to the Jamboree, this year was sunny, warm and just right for the theme “Happy Days Are Here Again!”

The 62nd annual Highlands celebration was enjoyed by hundreds that lined Main Street, and then gathered at the Elementary School for a day of games, food, exhibits, music, and entertainment.

Under the direction of Jessica Woods and Virginia Woods, and with the help of many volunteers, the event ran smoothly and everyone had a Happy Day.

The Jamboree was originally a celebration of Highlands Bank’s founding in 1955 in the community. It’s successor, Woodforest Bank, was the major sponsor of the Jamboree this year. Proceeds from the event go to the Chamber of Commerce, for scholarships and community projects.

The committee made awards in the following categories:

Men: 1st Shaun Rogers, 2nd Emmanuel Valladores

Women: Tied for 1st, Leslie Favors, Donna Tillman

Youth: 1st Jackson Favors
