CROSBY – Charlie Rooks Senior was diagnosed with advanced adecarninoma of the esophagus last June and he and his family formed Warrior Team Rooks, and were rapidly joined by much of the Crosby community shortly thereafter.
Charlie has been an active Crosby Fair and Rodeo participant and supporter for decades. So at his benefit last Saturday there were fried chicken dinners, raffles, music and dancing, a silent auction, a wine pulling, a bake sale, a washer tournament and a giant live auction with Bill Busby at the mike inside the Knights of Columbus Hall, that was near capacity.
His wife, Tina Rooks posted, ““There are no words to describe how Charlie and I felt Saturday as our friends and family came through the doors, one behind the other. Charlie was very humbled, and just blown away at the outpouring love and support for him is at this difficult time. I don’t guess anyone is prepared for cancer to strike, and surely not the second time. One thing we do know – that in our time of need, you all, along with our kids and family have shown us love and support we could ever imagine. How do we ever find words large enough to thank you? Saturday will be embedded in our hearts and minds forever. We humbly thank you from the bottom of our heart and know we are blessed with your friendship and continue presence in our life. Love you All!
