HIGHLANDS – A broad daylight shoot out in the 1000 block of Main St. on June 9 is said to be related to a dope deal that became attempted robbery by investigators of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Ryon Goodrum, 20, was charged June 10 in the shooting death of Eric Wheeler, 25, at a convenience store parking lot.

Deputies were called to Neighbor’s Emergency Center in Crosby regarding a shooting victim pronounced dead upon arrival on Thursday.

Detective filed a criminal complaint alleging that Goodrum was outside a vehicle at a vehicle that had Wheeler inside while transacting a drug deal arranged by Wheeler. Wheeler produced a pistol, so did Goodrum. Goodrum fired into the vehicle striking Wheeler. Wheeler later died of gunshot wounds.
