HIGHLANDS – Residents and drivers were surprised last Saturday morning, September 4, at about 2:00 am, to see a huge refinery vessel being transported through town on Main Street.

Police, utility trucks, and escort vehicles made up a parade of sorts, as they slowly proceeded down Main Street, lifting traffic lights, and moving power lines and street lights that were obstructing the clearances required for the huge vessel.

Traffic was closed on both the northbound and southbound sides of Main Street for about an hour as they headed for La Port and the refinery that would receive the vessel.

Several hours later, and miles from Highlands, they passed over the Fred Hartman bridge in Baytown, and also brought traffic to a standstill, at about 4:30 in the morning.

Eventually they turned on to Highway 225 and exited Sens Road in La Porte.
