Father, daughter drown in San Jacinto River

CROSBY – A 14 year old teen girl and her 38 year old father were missing after swimming last Saturday evening in the San Jacinto River near the Xtreme Off-Road Park and Beach at old Beaumont Highway.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that they received a call of the missing swimmers about 7:00 pm Saturday evening, and dispatched rescuers to 1927 Gulf Pump Road.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Dive Team, Crosby Fire Department, HCESD 5 EMS, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department mobilized to search the San Jacinto River, concentrating efforts between Beaumont Hwy and US 90, known recreational areas like Xtreme Beach.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed divers recovered the teenage girl’s body late Sunday. Shortly after, early Monday morning, authorities located the father’s body, concluding the search efforts.

This area of the San Jacinto River is known for its dangerous currents, and shifting river bottom with shallow and deep riverbed next to each other, causing difficult swimming conditions.

The circumstances surrounding the tragic incident are currently under investigation by local authorities.
