After kidney transplant, wanted to start a business

Highland Teen’s Wish to Start Lawn-mowing Business Comes True

HIGHLANDS – Make-A-Wish and Big Tex Trailers surprised 18 year-old Wish Kid Alex Garcia of Vann Street, with his own trailer and lawn mowing equipment so he can start his own business! They also provided him with business cards, logo’d shirts and flyers to jump start his new business.

Make-A-Wish, in partnership with Big Tex Trailers, hosted a surprise Wish Reveal for Highlands area teen Wish Kid Alex, who received a kidney transplant. Alex’s unique wish to start his own lawn-mowing business came to life with a community parade last Saturday, July 31, followed by the reveal of custom-logo-ed trailer filled with lawn mowing equipment.

Alex poses with his new trailer, and the staff of Make-A-Wish.

Alex’s wish to start his own business is a result of the great influence his late father had on him – it was always his father’s dream to have his own business and now Alex, through the help of Make-A-Wish, will be able to carry on that legacy.

For the Wish Reveal, Alex was escorted outside where a car parade drove past his house. The car parade included members of the community, Make-A-Wish volunteers, friends and family, with the last vehicle in line being the custom Big Tex trailer and equipment for Alex. Make-A-Wish is thrilled to bring this teen strength, hope and story with memories to last a lifetime. This wish is being made possible in part thanks to a generous in-kind donation by Big Tex Trailers.

The “Reveal” included a Drive-by Parade of his friends in anticipation of the gifts.

Make-A-Wish brings an entire community together to rally around wish kids. From medical providers who introduce children to the idea of a wish, to volunteers who walk alongside children and their families in their medical journey and help turn their fear to hope, to donors and corporate partners who offer their passion and resources to make customized wish experiences possible – they all know that a wish can be life-changing for everyone involved.

ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH TEXAS GULF COAST AND LOUISIANA

We are on a quest to bring every eligible child’s wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. This improves their quality of life and produces better health outcomes. A wish transforms the lives of children, their families, volunteers, supporters, medical professionals, and entire communities.

Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana is one of 59 chapters throughout the United States and its territories. Since our chapter’s inception in 1984, we have granted over 9,000 wishes, and, during fiscal year 2020, we granted more than 500 wishes.

Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, serving children in every community in the United States and in 50 countries worldwide. Since 1980, nearly 500,000 wishes have been granted to children in the U.S. and its territories.
